The Seckou Keita Quartet tour - 2007

In December 2006 and January 2007 Seckou Keita, London based composer and kora player from Senegal, toured Senegal and Gambia with his quartet.
It was the first time that Seckou was going back to perform in his country with a multinational ensemble playing music that is based on the West African tradition but incorporates influences from other parts of the world.
I followed the tour, filming the performances and places, interviewing people and trying to give a portrait of a changing reality.
The result is a one hour documentary made in cooperation with Katia Beltrame, of which here you can see a trailer.
To order copies of the DVD with the full feature contact Chelima Fade, the quartet's manager at World Artventures.

The science of delusion - 1988/2005

Delusions and illusions of the post WWII world, when happiness could be marketed, science could be worshipped and philosophies could be exchanged in a world that could only get better.

Sequence of collage images (35mm film, pre-computer era) from a scenic projection work made in 1988 using archive material from the 50s and 60s

The soundtrack is made of excerpts from Irdial’s Conet Project - shortwave radio recordings of “number stations” transmitting intelligence agencies’ secret coded messages from the cold war era.

Crossing the border - 2005
Documentary, 30 min.
13 min. trailer completed (see clip)

In May/June 2005 composer Roland Perrin went to Havana, Cuba, to rehearse and record his latest orchestral work "Crossing the Border" with an ensemble of classical musicians from the Orquestra Sinfonica Nacional and popular and jazz musicians.
I have filmed the days of work in Cuba, following Roland and the musicians throughout the process, interviewing some of the people involved as well as documenting the context and surrounding ambience.
We are currently seeking funding to complete the post-production of the documentary illustrating and accompanying the work - a 13 minutes trailer has been completed while two of the concerto's movements have been mixed.

The Garden in my mind - 1988/2005
short feature film, 16 min.

...a mental monologue, a woman who is coming out of a psychologically critical moment, a moment of great change, is talking to herself, following what seems a disjointed train of thoughts, we can read between the lines and recognise a struggle we all have to overcome, sooner or later, arguing with ourselves about the meaning of our actions and the depth of our feelings, confronting our solitude and looking for directions.
A mixture of memories and attempts to change direction, tracing the past to find a path to the future.

Written in Poros (Greece) 1988, filmed in London (UK) 2004 with Megan Lindley.
Voice over (English and Italian) by Sabina Sciubba New York, (US) 2004.
(editing 50% completed, June 2007).
