The pioneering new endeavour, is the Centre for Research into Creation in the Performing Arts based at Middlesex University. The Centre is designed to be a bridge between universities and the practices of professional performing arts.
Six artists with significant track records representing a variety of artforms and creative practices are supported by the centre as Research Associates, sharing their experiences and knowledge. The laboratory conditions are the conditions of the real world. The intention is to exchange and share processes in play when works are being created.
The centre facilitates discussion and the exchange of ideas and information between the associate creators. It also seeks to offer opportunities for wider interactions. Working with them is a Senior Research Fellow with substantial artistic and academic experience to enable discussion between the associates and disseminate the findings to a wider audience through seminars, symposia, conferences and the web.
seeks to develop understanding of the creative processes and the elements that makeup these processes. The Centre is committed to sharing that understanding as widely as possible and developing the artists and others involved in the work of the centre.
By placing artistic practice in the context of research, recognises the investigative nature and rigour of the processes which artists employ.
By listening to artists and providing a supportive resource for their work, hopes to extend our understanding of the work of artists and our appreciation of the art.
