The moment of truth has arrived. The Arabs, not only the Israelis are faced with making the tough decisions concerning Jerusalem and the Palestinian, Arab, Muslim and Christian rights in the city.
Silence, evasion, and colored politics are no longer useful methods because the Palestinian people, Israel and the United States are asking for a unified position.
The Arab tour that President Arafat has embarked on, and the contacts that the United States and Israel are conducting with the Arab World, are two contradictory tracks and it seems that many Arab countries are having a hard time trying pinning the points of agreement among them. There are some Arab countries that have announced its support of the Palestinian position regarding Jerusalem while others have indicated they are leaning toward pressuring the Palestinians to make concessions on the issue of Jerusalem.
Here, the Egyptian position must be praised. Egypt has withstood pressure from the United States and Israel and has remained strong in its commitment and support of the Palestinian and Arab rights in the holy city.
The Palestinian people highly appreciate the support of the Arab world.
